Committed to promoting literature among high school students, UACS School of Foreign Languages organized its Eleventh Annual Reading Competition. This year\u2019s competition honored the 100th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of James Joyce\u2019s literary masterpiece\u00a0Ulysses<\/em>.\u00a0Ulysses<\/em>\u00a0was first serialized in parts in the American journal\u00a0The Little Review<\/em>\u00a0from March 1918 to December 1920 and then published in its entirety in Paris by\u00a0Sylvia Beach on 2 February 1922. It is considered one of the most important works of\u00a0modernist literature.<\/p>\n

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Competition was organized electronically. Fifteen students from across the country\u00a0sent their recording of reading a three-minute excerpt from Ulysses.<\/p>\n

The Jury,\u00a0consisting of Jovanka Jovanchevska MA (UACS), Marija Girevska, PhD (University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius), Tamara Jolevska-Popov (UACS), awarded\u00a0first, second and third place at the online Award Ceremony which was held on 20 June 2022.<\/p>\n

Dr. Marija Girevska, an international Joycian scholar and the translator of Ulysses into Macedonia, held a short lecture on the novel and its translation.<\/p>\n
